To my fellow art lovers,

My goal is not only to share my passion for Vincent van Gogh, but to give you the keys to go further in your knowledge about the artist and the man through discovering who supported him professionally and personally. And something more. If, like me, you consider that beauty is an overwhelming necessity, this trip is made for you.

To welcome you to Paris, I will be leading a “Dégustation” of some famous French treats to give you a feeling like a real Parisian. A Dégustation is a culinary tasting designed to encourage the use of the senses to increase one’s appreciation of food as an art form.

After seeing Vincent Van Gogh’s art in the Musee d’Orsay, we will visit Paris and make some complementary connections. We will see a painting of Van Gogh which belongs to the Rodin Museum and which will not be on display at the exhibition; we will visit Montmartre where Van Gogh used to live, and importantly, we will visit the oldest artist suppliers’ shop of Paris and discuss its connection to the work and life of Vincent van Gogh.

Other highlights include: a dinner in one of the most typical Parisian Brasseries; have a drink in a hidden bar in Montmartre; and visit a private property in Paris famous for its part in the history of mental houses.

The schedule will be flexible to allow time to visit the workshop of at least one French perfumer (why not make your own perfume?), the sublime and magical Galerie Dior, and a famous chocolatier.

The last day of our tour we will visit the town of Auvers-sur-Oise and see the places van Gogh himself saw and painted, and deepen our understanding of the man and his art. We complete our time together with a group dinner to enjoy food, wine, and good company. Joining us will be Dr. Jan Willem Noldus, recently retired professor of Art History at the School of the Louvre, who has spent a lifetime studying Dutch art and who can provide valuable insights into the artist,  the man, and his time. We will discuss all we have learned and enjoyed together and get to know each other better before we go our separate ways.

If you are reading this, we share a common interest: a need for beauty that transcends our daily life. I will do my best to be sure that your eyes, your soul and your tummy will be well fed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Clotilde Roth-Meyer Berry
